72' Deerfoot 72 Ketch '85 "Locura"

LOCURA is the Sole Asset of a Delaware Corporation and she is not an ordinary yacht! She was custom designed by Steve Dashew, engineered and built to exact specifications to be a true, independent offshore cruiser, easily handled by two people. The dependable, easily maintained systems were engineered into an exceptionally strong, yet aesthetically pleasing hull. The resulting yacht is a head turner wherever she goes and is a joy to sail.

She is equally comfortable in northern climates and in the tropics, with large opening hatches, dorades and reverse cycle heating and air conditioning. LOCURA cruises easily at 10 - 15 knots and can regularly cover over two hundred nautical miles per day. She is a "must-see" for anyone considering a cruising sailboat.

Accommodations

This vessel is divided into three watertight compartments. A large forepeak is forward, accessed through a 31” deck hatch on the centerline and separated from the main accommodations by a watertight bulkhead. It is devoted to a chain locker, sail, line, inflatables, dinghy, anchor and gear stowage. This locker has 6’6” headroom and at 9’ long could be converted to a crew cabin and has a head if used for crew quarters.

Next aft of the locker divided by the watertight bulkhead is the ensuite head and stall shower, a vanity, sink and storage. To starboard of the head is ample closet, cabinets and storage. The master stateroom with 6’7” headroom on centerline has a queen-sized bed to port and sofa with end table on starboard, hanging lockers, drawers and cabinet. The mattress is designed in such a way as to allow the lee cloth to be attached while at sea. A privacy door separates the forward stateroom from the salon.

Next aft is the open concept salon, galley and dining area. To port and just aft of the forward cabin is an L-shaped sofa and built-in stationary cocktail table and an end table with storage. Opposite to starboard there are two built-in upholstered swivel chairs with a built-in table between them that wraps around their side. There are upper and lower cabinets, storage and bookcase in the salon.

Next aft and to port is a large galley with under the counter refrigerator and freezer. The refrigerator has two side-loading doors and the large chest type freezer is top-loaded. Over 20’ of Corian counter surface gives ample prep space. A new propane oven/broiler, a built-in microwave and double stainless steel sinks complement the galley. Across from the galley and to starboard the large U-shaped dinette will seat six. Four 31” square deck hatches can be opened to provide massive circulation.

Next aft to starboard is a navigation/communication station with built-in instrumentation and an aircraft style double pole circuit breaker panel with breakers within easy reach. Immediately across from the navigation station is the second head with stall shower, vanity sink and storage and privacy door.

Further aft of the navigation station and head are port and starboard identical staterooms both with pull out double berths and a bunk bed above which will sleep three on each side. Both cabins have three operating hatches and privacy doors. Between these two staterooms is a watertight access panel to the engine. The main companionway is amidships and leads to a covered dodger. The cockpit has 7' settees port and starboard. It houses navigation and communications equipment, autopilot primary controls and emergency equipment. Aft of the cockpit are two swivel captain’s chairs.

The full-beam engine room behind the helm is accessed by two large 31” hatches to starboard and port, separated from the rest of the boat by a watertight bulkhead in the engine room. Aft of the engine room is a stainless steel ladder to a large swim platform that has safety equipment and a fold down swim ladder.
