16' Haven 12.5 '94 "Deborah Lynn"

The Haven 12.5 is a modified version of the Herreshoff 12 1/2 which remains an active class today and is one of the most admired and well-loved boats ever designed. Joel White designed the Haven 12.5 to have the benefit of easy trailering with the addition of a centerboard. He was also careful to retain the fine elegant lines and he painstakingly made adjustments like a slight widening of the beam to make sure that sailing characteristics and performance were not affected by the shallower draft. To purchase a new Haven 12.5 today could run over $40K and this vessel is in excellent condition, making her very attractive at $14K.

Accommodations

The Haven Class Sloop is a modified version of Nathanael Herreshoff’s deep-drafted 12 1/2 sloop designed and built as a production boat in the early 1900’s. The advantages of the Haven Class over the Herreshoff are that she is easier to trailer due to the centerboard rather than the deep fixed keel of the Herreshoff and is able to be taken into shoal water. In terms of sailing ability and aesthetics the Haven Class is virtually identical to her predecessor. Joel White retained the fine elegant lines and carefully redesigned the hull so that the much-admired attributes of the original Herreshoff 12 1/2 (balance, stability, speed and responsiveness) remained unaffected by the reduction in draft.
